Consider a scenario where we are impelled to use CBDC. Where would that leave those with self-custody and decentralized money? I see a dual marketplace, much like countries with a hyper inflated currency. Venezuela, Argentina, etc. How does a government truly control labour or goods produced by such labour? We saw this reality here in Canada, and despite which side of the fence one stood, we saw a government trying to control a portion of the population by denying them access to their hard earned gains. Those paid with crypto but had them on an exchange, had even that seized. However there was a concession that those who self custodied were beyond all reach and seizure. Even as their accounts were locked, and were meant to suffer, there was always the ability to exchange that crypto from others with cash, food and fuel. Untouchables.
