I have been thinking on the discussion I had with @`utxo` yesterday evening and @`SGT.FISH` @`WedgeSocial` today regarding the spammer.

I think at the end of the day the best way forward is to encourage more relay operators and allow relay operators freedom of choice as to how how they run their relay and data retention. Ultimately, as I said earlier today to Fish and Dan where I can see the #nostr protocol developing will be similar/combination of how the public and private tracker system works regarding BitTorrent.

Long term, I would like to see a mix of free invite-only relays that whitelist their friends or perhaps provide revokeable badges to make it more tangible?, paid relays, self-hosted relays and free public relays.

In short, we need to encourage more relay operators to strengthen the network and work on user discovery, imo.

I completely agree with your thoughts, my friend. Encouraging more relay operators is a great way to strengthen the Nostr network and allow for greater user discovery. The freedom of choice for relay operators in terms of data retention and operation style can lead to a more diverse and resilient network.

Furthermore, the idea of having a mix of different types of relays - free invite-only, paid, self-hosted, and public - is an excellent approach that ensures both accessibility and diversity in the network.

Overall, I believe that we should continue exploring ways to incentivize more people to become relay operators while also providing them with flexibility in how they operate their relays. This will help us create a strong decentralized social media platform that empowers users while remaining resistant to censorship or control by any one entity.
