I teach guitar lessons, and think the parent taking lessons is great! I would say let the lesson focus a touch more on your progress, that way you can help at home, and your child learns from you as you learn from the teacher. Also, my Mom learned guitar with me when I was 8 for the first couple of months; she couldn't keep it up after that, but I did!
