I did, even a back and forth from Oct still shows in New Requests (missed it until just now!) as well as one I responded to today.

Hum... So, if the app doesn't download messages from all the way back then, then it doesn't know you have interactions with this account. 🤔

Also one I replied to 37 mins ago still shows in New Requests, do they need to reply again?

Yup, I missed it 4 days ago, responded in the last hour. Still shows in New Messages tab.

Interesting... can you check if the person is in your block list (Security filters drawer) or if the person has reports from people you follow?

I have an empty security filters drawer and it's the nostrica account, I don't see any reports on the banner under their account.
