I had no idea how much of a fiat slave I was until I lost my job last year.

The new boss fired me. I'd already told him he couldn't do what he wanted due to German labour law. I think that's why he fired me, he couldn't hear 'no'. I don't know, doesn't matter.

Long story short I spent 6 months doing nothing while getting paid. Now I'm working again but I could just stop at any point and still the company will have to pay me for the next three years.

For 15 years, I worked hard and was loyal. When the illusion broke I couldn't believe what I'd convinced myself of. I was a true slave.

I'm grateful to him for showing me what a mess I had become. I'm still there. I think still having me around is a massive thorn in his side. I just have other stuff to do now rather than worry about my career. Poor guy is trapped, himself.
