In Japan, plums (ume) are popular toping for rice ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿ™

They are preserved to make umeboshi - very salty and sour flavor with a familiar taste of plum.

Umeboshi is added to rice to make onigiri ๐Ÿ™ (rice balls) or as topping on plain rice ๐Ÿš bowl. Itโ€™s also used in a variety of dishes like pasta ๐Ÿ, tofu, chicken, fish, chips.

Most households have it in their fridge year-round.

If you do come across it, highly recommend you give it a try.
