I don't expect much from that lot.

But what I want from journalism is a world-neutral bias... a bias that aligns with wherever the majority of the UN general assembly leans.

What do YOU expect from journalism?

Unbiased reporting

My expectations are rarely met

Unbiased is extremely difficult to achieve.

In documentary studies we pretty much come to the conclusion that it is impossible to be objective (not for lack of trying).

What would make you accept that the piece is unbiased?

Let me rephrase a attempt at unbiased reporting is what i expect

I see your point tho

Stick to reporting, no interpretation. This happened there, here are the details. So and so said that, other dude said this.

Still, I can play tricks on your mind by crafting the order in which I present the various intertwined bits.

I once had a workshop where we had access to raw footage from the revolution in South Africa, separate teams had to use all clips but edit them as they wish. No commentary allowed.

The various cuts ended up painting different stories. Intentional or not, one event always felt as the consequence of the other. Who shot first?

I got stuck in a political revolt in Thailand. The part of town I lived in ended up being a live ammunition zone. I have seen the reality, then watched BBC wanting to puke; they clearly had an agenda. The best reporting I could rely on came from long unedited clips (sometime various angles for same event).

Very fair critique i am definitely not argueing anything thanks for sharing i can imagine seeing behind the Curtains puts everything goinf forward into a new light😬

I’m just playing with ideas and memories late at night 🤷‍♂️🤣🫂
