Nonsense. Most people don’t do those things because they calculate they’re going to on net lose with such efforts.

If those efforts led to pulling oneself out of poverty and getting an education, plenty more would do it.

You’re assessing things from the frame of the status quo; this was written in a very different status quo where such opportunities were available, and people took them.

i agree in some respects but there is also an aspect of the people (most) now that is different.

people that work hard and hustle aren’t necessarily making a value calculation. going 100% hard at your goals is something that gets built in to you at a young age. it is part of who they are. they make it happen by brute force.

for the people out there now that have that aspect to them, then you are correct, they would certainly take advantage.

this is the same difference between people that take self custody, run their own node and those that try to swing trade on centralized platforms trying to make a quick buck.

You miss the point.

People are constantly making value decisions.

Anyone who thinks to themselves today, “if I go hunt and trap some animals, I can sell the hides for some pigs, and those pigs will get me enough to fund a Uni degree” would be retarded.

Because that’s not a viable path in 2025.

It was in 1875.

So no-one thinks to themselves, “I could go get some skins, flip them for pigs, and get educated”.

You’re literally embodying your PFP.

so your point was literally just that we should be able to hunt/trap, raise 2 pigs, go to college, and reach the pinnacle of society today and that the fact that we can’t means some unjustice was done?

ya i guess i really am missing the point.

i thought your point was that honest hard working people can’t rise in todays society when leveraging todays technology, not the technology of 150 years ago. which is a problem.

i was only trying to add that people are also soft now, which makes it even worse.
