What does meme mean?

The term "meme" comes from the Greek "mimema", meaning "something imitated".

It was coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, and he used it to describe a unit of cultural information that spreads from person to person, similar to how genes are passed on in biology.
