yes. there's virtually zero spam. i've been using nostr.wine for 2.5 years. i would also recommend nostr.land.
I have those in my relays list but I haven’t paid for them. Are they not relaying my notes?

For paid relays, anyone can read from them, but only paid users can write to them.
nos.lol is a an older and well known public relay and does have spam, but nostr:nprofile1qqsflmrj64um42nh9tu7w8nr3dffy9tjrt8xururype9ajle7alctvgppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddakj7qg4waehxw309ahx7um5wghx77r5wghxgetk9uukdx2g is now using AI to combat spam and he's doing a great job with it.
also looking at reports now and filtering based on reports. nostr:nprofile1qqs99d9qw67th0wr5xh05de4s9k0wjvnkxudkgptq8yg83vtulad30gxyk5sf has been running nostr:nprofile1qqspnfg6vfgvekap435gnlykph6lydlaqphe7682cxpan73unt80hkqaynk86 which is helpful for nsfw.

They won't relay until you pay, yes. With nostr.land you also get access to wss://aggr.nostr.land, which reads from free relays, and spam filters them into one large relay.
