I've recently found a small store that accepts Bitcoin close to my house.

(And it's not even on that BTCMap thing.)

I onboarded many small merchants in the past. And most of them do NOT want to be on any BTCmap to not draw too much attention. Some of them are happy with small steps.

Any recommendation for a wallet to suggest to a merchant if they've never had any experience before?
