I remember having a family of another athlete I had never met until the starting line before the 2.4 mile swim with 3-4 foot swells and 30 mph winds “adopt” me when I did my first Ironman. Still one my scariest life moments. That athlete finished hours early and came to congratulate me when I finished well after dark. Beautiful people. It was a huge help not to have to do it alone 💜
