My friend who is anti bitcoin, argues the hard cap isn't there because bitcoin is subdivided into satoshis, and I've just seen that's subdivided again into millisatoshis or msats
What's next, nanosats?
I guess he's got a point

Pizza metaphor. Have him study pizza slicing.
Nano sats are already a thing on lighting. It’s funny he argues this way as the finance ₿ros (kenisians) argument is that the fixed supply cannot ₿e reactive enough to liquidity problems and will exacerbate economic recessions as supply cannot ₿e manipulated in times of crisis.
Only cut my pizza in 10 slices I can’t eat 16
There is no pizza. That’s the flex.
₿ut like, who own the pizza place? Couldn’t someone just open up another pizza place and promise free pizzas if they are longer than 10min for delivery? Seems kinda sus
There's always using a fork with pizza, they are always going their own way 😁
Moster, a fork?
Only Saylor can eat pizza with a fork and he sold it for more ₿
Apologies, I was trying to make a joke about pizza and cutlery, with undertones of when when two or more blocks have the same block height, ie; fork....lol
I don’t get it. Bitcoin’s definition prevents more than 21 million BTC from being created. Why does it matter that the minimum transaction amount is 10^-8 BTC (1 satoshi), and not 1 BTC? (As for millisatoshis, we can imagine them but we can’t write a 1 msat transaction to the blockchain.)
Ok so everyone here using the pizza analysis fundamentally dont understand the nuances of the entire argument.
Pizza is subject to the laws of the physical world. Integers by nature are not. Therefore think of a line in cyberspace you could indefinitely divide the line infinitely forever as theres no plausible limit to the amount of times you could slices " halves".
This is the problem with ∞ there is no end. Or beginning just forever. You could count forever and ever and never reach the end of numbers as they stand.
There will only ever be 2.1 quadrillion sats on baselayer bitcoin forever amen. This base protocol will never allow for more units to be issued.
So lightnings ability to use millisats is something only native to it and these units are not "enforceable" by base layer bitcoin. Its only a trusted model used hy nodes to keep track of the dust. If your channel forced closed with millisats "owed" to you they would just be poofed gone theres nothing enforcing the ownership of these units.
So you could theoretically take another smaller unit of sats derived from those millisats and continue to do that forever in theory but again this goes back to the idea that integers are not bound to the laws of physics.
