The idea is it will cost more to print pennies than their worth! The way to attack the fiat system is to expose its weaknesses. The goal is to stop using credit and debit cards for every day purchases. Change or sats let the merchants and service providers choose
It seems easier to ask each vendor if they accept bitcoin.
If not give them a look of disappointment and perhaps disgust, and tell them setting up a lightning node will save you both money.
They could even offer a slight bitcoin discount as the fee will be almost nothing.
