There is a need for hardcore nerds to bootstrap things like this. Bitcoin Twitter has a lot of hardcore nerds.

That's how I see it anyways. Nerds first, normies later. I've seen it before. Twitter, Digg (👀), Reddit, any Internet property that got popular. It was always started by a bunch of nerds, then the normies come and it sucks thereafter.

Hopefully Nostr can break this trend and not turn into a piece of shit 😂

I am just wondering if things have changed somewhat compared to the situation of when twitter, did, Reddit, started. More fragmented, more saturated, less novel, more fatigue(?)

Like, are you interested in farcaster? I don't know it's actual credentials, but let's pretend it was fully decentralised (I'm pretty sure it's not). Would you be interested in farcaster?

That's the sort of scenario I hope nostr is not in.

I'm an idiot, and this doesn't mean anything.

But I get Linux vibes from Nostr, something big that's just beginning. It's too easy to build on. It's too open for new ideas. Things happen too quickly. I'm running a relay from my phone on Tor as of 30 minutes ago.

But I'm an idiot. So who knows?

I'm literally the biggest idiot here, that's my M.O. 😡😤

But yeah just my gut feeling... I think nostr does have a this Other, very curious aspect to it. I think you're totally right.

Idiots unite 😂

Being able to build on nostr is a totally underplayed / lesser known aspect to it, maybe?

Your perspective is interesting because you didn’t come at this like the majority of the bootstrap cohort.

I think I would have dismissed Nostr if not for understanding Bitcoin, the same as I didn’t get into Bitcoin the first times I saw it. Why didn’t you dismiss it early on?

Agree this does have an early Reddit feeling but way more cypherpunk. Wasnt into Linux but interesting comparison!

I came here in February '23, due to nostr:nprofile1qqsgydql3q4ka27d9wnlrmus4tvkrnc8ftc4h8h5fgyln54gl0a7dgspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43qz9rhwden5te0wfjkccte9ejxzmt4wvhxjmcpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqwqfq9k & Snowden taking about it on the tweety. I already had some knowledge. I have worked in IT. I'm not oblivious to my privacy and the implications of social media & a networked sensor laden device in your pocket. There was never really an alternative though. Nostr seemed like a place for me to be. New, exciting, slightly broken. So I stayed, and noted, and got turned into a bitcoiner 😂

Is there like an app for that?
