I've just finished fixing my Daughter's little Honda.

It's been out of action for almost 3 weeks as I waited on parts.

I'm not a mechanic but I have eyes, hands, tools & time.

Symptoms: oil streaming out of engine & an existing power steering issue.

I was quoted almost $4K AUD to repair it which I thought was high considering it's probably only worth $6K.

It's been an ordeal & took about 24 hrs over 4 days of cursing & head scratching to diagnose the leak. The engine bay is tiny and very cramped.

All up it cost about $350 fix which included fresh oil & an oil filter.

Aside from the money & the feeling of achievement, I gained quite a lot of value from it. It brought my son & I closer as I needed an extra set of hands. I think we have a little more mutual respect for each other now.

I'd written off the vehicle mentally, so I had no issues with potentially causing damage to the car. All went well in the end.

I can now look at getting my ute/truck drivable.

Job well done. That great feeling of satisfaction.

And yes, blessed are the niche mechanical YouTube tutorial creators with 1,200 views. They’re doing god’s work.
