Today I found that a brand new #RaspberryPi Zero 2 that I bought was dead on arrival. So that's about $20 down the drain.

This is why I test every unit I build. Rare junk like this does happen sometimes and I want to make sure I do my best to never let a fellow #OpenSource enthusiast down! ✊ #HestiaPi #OpenHardware #foss #hardware #IoT

That sucks. How often does that happen?

I've only had it happen once and I've ordered about 20 pi boards over the years, either for thermostats or other projects.

Bad luck this week. Yesterday it was a defective pi, today it was a short circuit in a power converter! It damaged a PCB (whose trace acted like a fuse), but I was able to repair that

Normally it takes like 30 minutes to build one unit, but these two have taken well over 2 hours on account of all the troubleshooting and re-work that had to be done.

I don't expect bad components, so the first thing I look for are mistakes that I made. Maybe those days are behind me and I should check parts now?
