Devil's advocacy is dishonest pretense by definition.
Discussion
The "Devil" part of the phrase is standing in for a view that you, yourself, believe is wrong.
Not always
Literally by definition.
Not everything is taken literally
Speak for yourself.
That’s not a personal comment, it’s a factual comment.
1. I take things quite literally, and I speak quite literally
2. I really don't know what definition of "devil's advocacy" you are using then.
Devil's advocacy is when you take a position you do not actually hold, usually one you acknowledge is false, but which has argumentative use if you engage in the pretense of pretending it's a view you hold for the sake of argument.
