Anyone else have favorite starting words? I have two that I stick to that have served me well (other than yesterday's smite, spite, suite bullshit).

I like to start with new words each time. Used to start with "adieu"
I'm thinking of adding that rule for myself, no repeats within a 7 day stretch. I like using "raise" and then "cloth", because right off the bat I get a bunch of vowels, and then all the words with "ch", "sh" and "th".
Yeah, after using adieu a long time back in day I could swear the makers of puzzles would build around people trying such tactics as finding all vowels first, but can't be sure. Think it's just more fun to go "random" start, and find really doesn't impact score (that I can tell)
