Get your bitcoin off the fucking exchanges!
Discussion
If you don’t have a cold storage device and don’t make you’re open with a raspberry pi (because hard to find those) how do you generate a wallet? Sparrow on an offline only computer?
*don’t make one
I think you're talking about two different things. A raspberry pi is a device you can use to set up your own node. I was referring to getting your bitcoin off the exchanges which you can simply do by withdrawing it to an address whose private key you control. Ideally a signing device/hardware wallet but even a hot wallet in your phone is better
And yes, I'd say sparrow is a pretty good choice. Definitely better than an exchange that will lose/steal your money and probably already rehypothecates it
I was referring to a cold storage wallet on a raspberry pi zero, sorry I typed that quickly.
I agree with your sentiment, I’m trying to figure out what the best guides are to do this for people who don’t have cold storage and are moving decent amounts of btc off an exchange. Mg understanding is putting it into a phone or computer hot wallet isn’t recommended.
Definitely not recommended for significant amounts but still better than trusting an untrustworthy exchange
You can get a relatively cheap hardware wallet such as trezor for about €80. There's also coldcard and several other options. You can connect it to your own node but that's not a must, you can use it with one of their nodes (then you trust that node and not yours) but again, still better than not having your own keys
