I work in a project-based field. I’m qualified to do my boss’s job. And if I were independently wealthy, I’d even be qualified to do his boss’s job.

That said, getting my first job at a new level takes time - I have to convince someone to give me that job without a resume that says I’ve done it before. And at the same time I have to turn down opportunities at my existing level.

When I don’t need the next paycheck to keep the lights on and defend my stack, I’ll be able to invest my effort into leveling up.
