Barevná mechanická televize byla veřejnosti poprvé představena 3. července 1928. Jejím vynálezcem, „otcem televize“, je skotský inženýr John Logie Baird. Byl to právě on, kdo o dva roky dříve představil také černobílou mechanickou televizi.
