Something I’m noticing with the Canadian medical system over the last few years is when I need a referral, I can’t get into an *actual* specialist for that particular issue.
I’ll be ‘referred’ somewhere, but it’s just to another MD with a ‘special clinical interest’ in my area of need instead of an actual licensed specialist. Why is it ok to practice in an area you didn’t do a specialty residency in and have no certifications?
What the hell, Canada? Honestly.
Imagine if we started doing this outside of medicine? What if I had a ‘special interest’ in social work and decided I can help people in that area because I have a load of personal experience? Yeah, no.
If we won’t accept it outside of medicine, we shouldn’t accept it inside of medicine.
