Yes, zcash has infinitely better privacy when shielded than anything possible wth bitcoin.
Both can be true, and indeed are in this case, but the "Cypherpunk" is such a self-masturbatory zealot that elementary logic fails him, because his dogmatic bias makes him a fanatic.
