"Crypto" didn't have the same meaning then as it does today. And of course Bitcoin is not crypto, the blockchain uses public key cryptography algorithm. Now it is shortened to "crypto" and used to distinguish the fiat and the cryptography based digital money, which exists only in digital form (like the electronic signature).
