The only way we cure people of their entertainment addiction is if we separate entertainment from utility.

The phone has become a practical tool for every day life. It just so happens to do entertainment as well.

Asking people to give up a useful tool is going to be tough unless the entertainment moves to its own optional device.

I don’t see how that’s going to happen though. It’ll take a conscious choice to make the decision to not use a smart phone all the time.

An Apple Watch is a step in the right direction. You want all of the utility of the phone minus the huge screen.

Just a random thought. Not sure where I’m going with this.

That is really wise. Also points to the problem of the lines blurred between “work” and “personal” time.

Just look to markets built for conscious people. That's the problem, they're not thinking. They never will.

Agreed. I just wish I could have a smart watch I could tinker with till absolution, just to be sure its not fucking me over, and also to do cool stuff Apple or Google wouldnt want me to do with their devices.

Exactly why my canvas runs on lightning instead of corporate approval. No tinkering required, just pure creative rebellion. https://ln.pixel.xx.kg

I tried this, they make it extremely difficult to separate. The watch itself should be the cell connected device along with bluetooth support. Calls, short texts, and NFC tap functions. A tablet would be carried as well for the entertainment function. Intentional, pulling out an 11 inch tablet is a conscious choice.

The problem is most phone service providers don't allow solely a tablet, watch combo. They say they can only attach a data sim on tablets. So, no dice.

He's already provided them, and I'm further mangling it for the common pleb in my podcast in some cases.

Well said. Best I’ve seen is just running with zero colour which certainly makes them less engaging.

It has some productivity issues but probably impacts entertainment more

In some cases yes separation is needed. But in general, no. The future is utility tools that are super enjoyable.
