What is the gen z version of discovering “all by myself” at the end of dookie?

You understand me too well, sir. Oddly enough I feel like the ubiquity of music that gen z has grown up with completely deprives them of a deeper joy of discovery, the joy in exploration that actually takes effort, of shared musical experiences that require a degree of commitment.

They don’t know what it’s like to tape the radio, order music from paper catalogs, wait for stores to open, buy an album based solely on the cover art and have that be a real gamble with real money, etc.

The mystery has been removed, as it has with so many other things too.

I remember waiting by the radio to catch “fly” by sugar ray on tape
