on relays, in the relay's databases.

Are any of them posting stats on how quickly their dbs are growing? And do we have a sense of whether this is going to be sustainable?

Some are more vocal than others. It's probably not sustainable, IMO. I believe in the future we'll have relays that have user limits or maximum capacities.

Also remember (not you Derek cause you know) these are purely text files. Any images, GIFs etc are purely converted by the client, not the relays so luckily duplication makes it not as much as you would think. I think Will spoke about the one he had and it was wayyy less than I thought it would be, being a main relay.

If the relay's admins decide to delete his database? I know, maybe your data is in other relays, but, and if you post in exactly one relay that the relay's admins decide to delete?

Probably gone forever.

This is why we run our own private relays. It's anti-rug technology.

I understand, but the most people that use Nostr protocol in the massive adoption will not run the own Relay. Maybe exist in the future a database like a service, where the user pay for a relay's admin stock your data with a contract, ensuring the integrity of your data.

also in your client

I don't know a single client that doesn't keep a copy of the latest profile and can't post a new one when you modify it
