This unlikely cultural crossover reminds me of a piece of writing I saw on Stacker News. It's a on John Perry Barlow, Grateful Dead lyricist, digital right group EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) co-founder, and generally seen as an early member of the cypherpunk movement.
Highly recommend you give a read to someone that seemed to "Forrest Gump" himself into a couple of completely unrelated counter-culture movements.

Yeah, I've known for quite awhile now that John Perry Barlow was an early pioneer of the internet. Thx, I'll give it a read. Part of the reason for The Dead's huge success was that that had a pair of incredibly talented songwriting teams that crafted many masterpiece compositions during their 30 year run.
