Not exactly the same mechanism as editing (or being convinced or compelled to edit) your kids genes, but what's the difference in motivation?

The editor wants a better outcome for their environment, through their lens of worldview. Why else try to debug nature?

Selective breeding has the same motivation. But not genocide. And selective breeding is arguably a lot more moral

Genocide has it right there in the name. Getting rid of bad genes like vermin or weeds from your environment, because in your worldview, the environment is "nicer" without them.

For all 3 of these things, the editors motivation ends up in the same place.

Okay, fair point. But breeding is consentual, gene editing is arguably fairly at the parents' discretion and genocide is murder. But I take your point 🤝
