Am I the only progressive that wants to get rid of state and federal income tax?

One of the few đ
Hereâs a lil excerpt from me writing down a stream of Bitcoin musings:
Good intentions, wrong ideas.
Conservatives say stop spending.
Progressives say raise taxes.
Both are fatally flawed answers.
Try to tax the rich? They have the power to move jurisdictions, taking their spending out of the economy entirely. Businesses lose, prices go up, people lose jobs and access to resources that protect their lives and families.
Stop spending on social programs? Good and healthcare and shelter become inaccessible for even more people. They lose access to resources that protect their lives and families.
The âhard pill to swallowâ is that traditional solutions will not work, and an alternative is badly needed.
Enter Bitcoin.
Tax man: âHey working class people, we are going to tax TF outta your earnings.â
Tax man to Investors, wealthy elite: âmeh, you can do your tax loopholes and hold your equities and take a $0 income. Have a nice day!â
USA! USA! USA! đ
I must admit, for a long time I thought it logical that simply closing loopholes and raising taxes on the top 1% would generate enough money to adequately protect those people in our society who need it most.
But Iâve been realizing a few things:
- âthe governmentâ will never actually do this, because the people with the power to make it happen are financially incentivized to pay lip service and life else.
- âthe governmentâ obviously doesnât allocate the existing tax dollars (not even mentioning debt) in a responsible, efficient, intelligent, or moral way. I would willingly give up a larger share of income than I do today, if I could direct how it was spent. I donât want my labor to fund war.
- the view that âtaxation is theftâ is a pretty niche view (although less so in Bitcoin communities), and I find it hard to believe that a practical application of âno taxesâ would actually work in a society as large and complex as ours (again, setting aside valid points on debt and money printing). That said, thereâs a very convincing philosophical argument that taxation is necessarily predicated on violence. So my view on this is still being cultivated.
Anyway, youâre not the *only* person who believes in progressive values and also doesnât believe taxes are the answer.

The government is westmoorings friends and family?
No, but yâall are a limited edition.
âŠBut can you propose an alternative to fund the necessary functions of government at the state and national level?
*ducks*
(as everyone from progressives to libertarians to anarchists looks at me sideways)
