This key material, called a KeyPackage, advertises the functional abilities of the client such as supported protocol versions, supported extensions, and the following cryptographic information:¶

I think the purpose of this is so that it's impossible to know if someone has been invited to a group. In NIP-87, invitations are addressed to your real public key, but the sender is obscured. This seems like an ok tradeoff.
