Depends on context. I don't mind it, but there are ways that certain people say it where it sounds demeaning, that I don't like.

buddy can be annoying but "bud" is more tolerable.

Depends on the person/situation/context. Had friends that used the word with friends in a sincere way. But in the manner I assume you referring to, it can be quite condescending imo. Same with boss and pal

I’m fine if it’s close friends. “My buddy was over the other day…” etc., sounds normal. But it can be pretty condescending in the wrong tone or context.

I use buddy for kids. Don’t think i would use it to address another adult, feels a bit condescending.
