Thoughts on dumbbells though??
For novices I would strictly implement Starting Strength. Plenty of intermediates go into dumbell for chest and shoulders. I would ignore biceps and bodybuilding in general; focus on strength.
(I really like dumbell but I anyone who hasnt mastered Starting Strength is investing in the wrong thing).
Do well and stay healthy. Are you doing squats, deadlifts, or presses with the horizontal bar?
I do Starting Strength.

- hip-snap overhead press
- deadlift
- clean
