I see that in our cultures, as compared to the indigenous of Colombia for example, do not have a right of passage, a ceremony, or a ritual to mark the end of boy/ girl and the commencement of adulthood, so quite literally we get stuck in child psychology potentially forever. Boys in men’s bodies, behaving like children, drinking, gambling, chasing women, no direction, not taking responsibility for anything. I feel a lot is down to a deficiency in the depth of our culture. We have lost our ancient rights of passage and the consequence is children making big globally catastrophic decisions from the psychology of a child.
You summed it up very nicely! I observed that with the Kogis or in the Amazonas. It was beautiful, powerful, frightening too (for the westener) but to be honest you can see this initiations in any indigenous tribe in the world.
ALSO: In the west, there was a deeper meaning in the traditions we through out of the window. Beeing it rituals in the religions or in the "closed minded" villages with their rituals.
Sometimes it's just hard to distinguish between: a ritual with a loving intention, or a ritual with a controlling intention?
Love knows best.
