I buy them when I see them, but I'm taking a work trip to Oklahoma (and dont have maps) and was just trying to find some quick hikes. I think I'll be close to the Black Mesa State Park, so I was gonna probably head that direction.

Since you already know about all trails... Check Avenza and openstreetmaps for the area too. Both have hiking trails and both offer offline download of maps.

Offline access is at least a middle ground between paper and needs the internet. Now it is down to battery life and not breaking your phone.

A good map and a compass are safety devices and should be taken seriously, especially in unknown terrain when traveling. Most of us, myself included, don't take our time in the woods seriously enough until something bad happens. Slow learner, I've had hypothermia while lost twice.

I will be bringing a compass with me, If I can find a physical map on the way, that'll be a bonus. I like to keep my navigation skills as sharp as I can.

I do have a avenza.

Check google maps and turn on the terrain layer to check topography, and elevation.

Look for marked parks, recreation areas, and water features
