No. 3b monthly active doesnt mean they are writing posts. An active user is everyone that opens the app and just browses.

But the majority of them are not people who open the app and just browse

Your view of people's social media usage is incorrect

I can see the same usage pattern on Amethyst. It's everywhere.

I even got multiple people asking me to delete the + button from the home screen feed.

Lots of people don't have anything to say.

Amethyst does not have the same usage pattern as Facebook

The goal is to make Facebook and Amethyst trade places, not to keep all user activity in Zuck's walled garden

"Multiple people" doesn't mean the majority of 8 billion on earth

How long have you explored the data on this?

You trying to ad hominem me?

This isn't about data, anyone in a country where Facebook is dominant should have enough anecdotal evidence to be sure the vast majority of Facebook users post and reply

I am trying to understand where your knowledge on this is coming from. Data is available for these things. Did you review the data or just taking about your personal experience?

You are one of the top 0.01 keys by activity on nostr. People like you are EXTREMELY rare.

I don't believe there is good data available but I was a Facebook user until I got banned and I don't remember knowing anyone out of my hundreds of Facebook friends who didn't ever post or reply to anything

I remember years ago when Aaron Swartz was still around, some reddit admin posted statistics saying only like 10% of people did anything other than scroll and read, but Aaron Swartz era reddit also isn't facebook

There are 1000s of papers on this matter with huge datasets, including from Facebook. 5 years ago, even I had private access to one of them. You could see similar patterns that I am describing over there as well. That's where my info comes from. A mix between the papers, the data I had access and my experience with Amethyst for the past 3 years.

I don't understand how you don't have anecdotal evidence that beats any data

If Facebook says the majority of its users have never posted or replied to anything, I know based on the time I spent on Facebook with my classmates and other locals that Facebook would either be lying or misreading their own data (taking bots as humans? idk)

But I do have anecdotal evidence as well. I am the main customer support channel for Amethyst. I end up talking to a lot of people. The passivity is quite visible with many users.

They don't want to post. It's a whole different mindset. They are here to learn and observe. Not to post. It's actually very interesting and the main reason why so many of Amethyst's features are dedicated to readers instead of writers.

As I said, the goal should be to have Amethyst trade places with Facebook

You shouldn't want nostr to be the place so empty even the average nostr user has never posted here

But that is the goal. And if we are going to replace it, we will have to make it good for readers most of the time.

Forcing people to post is not good. They decide when they are ready to post. We can guide them there, but part of being the "freedom platform" is to allow users to be whoever they want to be. Otherwise, they will end up hating us in the same way they hate Facebook.

So you developing faster horse drawn carriage’s ? Giving people what they think they want now , not what nostr needs ? Who’re these people learning from ? People who post ?

Nobody is developing what nostr needs. Ever.

We develop what users want. Nostr is just the current combination of those features.

What are you gonna do if someone actually starts developing what nostr needs πŸ¦‡

Let them develop? I don't know what you want me to do with them...

I just hope you're prepared πŸ—½

I will always be on the side of users. If majority wants it, I will develop. Other people are happy to develop whatever they think is good for nostr. Just don't complain when they don't have any users.

I will complain when they don't have any users actually πŸ—½πŸ—½πŸ—½

I don't doubt. You are always complaining about everything :)

Top 0.01% of complaining npubs πŸ’ͺ

Readers need nostr to have notifications so the people who fill threads with replies can find the threads and reply
