I haven’t heard of Lineage. How does it compare to Graphene?

#Graphene is based on #LineageOS, kind of a security focused version of LineageOS, but only working on Google-Hardware with no replacable battery and closed source Google firmware.

The main thing that stops me from leaving Apple is photos. What is the de-Googled Android answer to photo cloud storage and sharing?

MEGA is decent for photo storage / cloud. Auto upload / sync feature for 2 x folders of your choice.

Yes Ser 😎

self hosting is the key... try #Nextcloud

on Android u can set automated uploads and sync folders

Check out #filen also. It's cross platform, #opensource and security audited.

https://ente.io/ is another one I see recommended and you also have https://cryptomator.org/ too.

I don't think GrapheneOS is based on LineageOS - it's based on AOSP.

You're right.

I think LineageOS is actually AOSP + vendor + skin.

Yes appreciate that this was cleared up GrapheneOS is a hardened privacy and security focused OS with no Google services either baked into or used by the system by default.

LineageOS is not.

#CalyxOS or #DivestOS might be a good alternative.

I dont feel well using #Goolag hardware with closed source Google-firmware and non replacable battery like Pixel phones.

To use your coined term, there is #Goolag baked into the system on either of those options being based on LineageOS.

DivestOS is the better of the two, they port GrapheneOS features listed here:

Then how much more open do you believe other OEMs are?

At least with Pixels and Graphene you get AOSP and the open source Trusty OS and Open Titan as the basis for the TEE and RISC-V secure element which is a lot further than most other phones.

Which vendors using those OS that aren't Pixels and with removable batteries provide up to date patching and security updates for their firmware/drivers to the same standard or better?

Replacable battery is a killer feature since the proprietary "broadband module OS" host and BLE threat is still out of full control for the virtualized Android.

If you only use FLOSS apps and a still maintained fone, LOS without GApps, microG is a good alternative, combined with network filters (NetGuard, AFWall+, AdAway, Pihole...). Mayb also root can be considered which is afIk not easily possible on GOS but gives back freedom to users with special needs.

I personally understand people who dont want to support Google by buying super expensive Google hardware.

Your choice also depends on what threat scenario and against which kind of attacks you like to be safe from.

If you are dependent on proprietary apps, which must be considered compromised on a higher level security environment, GOS is def. the better option.

Though GOS, too, cannot make u immune to attacks from 3 letter agencies.
