Is it possible to download all your notes and events associated with your nsec, create a new key pair and then somehow transfer all the events from the old nsec to the new?

Nostrgram lets you download all your stuff

Ok so the first part is solved, but can it then somehow be transferred or rebroadcast from a new nsec?

No clue

I haven’t dug into NIPs this far, but if it is not there, then probably not. If someone will create the NIP for this and all adopt it, then we are good!

you could do this, but someone would need to write a tool to do it.

Would be huge to have in case of compromised keys

you couldn't replace the events, but you could repost them. so they'd all have new timestamps, but the content would technically be moved.

Haha and everyone’s feed would just be your posts😂

you'd have to do this before you announced your new profile so you'd have zero followers. global would be rekt though.

Would a timed release be possible so it’s just a few notes every like 10 minutes or so to avoid spamming everyone?

yeah, you could do that. i'm hoping we have better tools in the future, but writing a script to do this would be possible.

Nah because it goes by the timestamp on the post, not when it was published

The question is will relays allow you to publish posts dated significantly in the past?

So even though it’s being rebroadcasted from a brand new nsec it would still appear as backdated to the original date and time from the old nsec, if a relay allowed it? So if you have your own relay it’s possible?

Yep

Should I try it 👀

I guess 🤷‍♂️ what’s the purpose? Did you mine a vanity key? Also important thing to know: all the notes will have to be resigned with your new key. The replies and reactions won’t be transferred over

I’m not actually gonna do it 😂 at least for right now, but if your private key ever gets compromised I think this would be a good thing to know to transfer everything over to a new secure private key

For sure

How would NIP-26 delegation work into this issue? If a nip-26 delegated key were to be compromised, could events be somehow attached to a new key, delegated by the same root private key?

I wanna know too. Tag me

It’s possible, read replies, there’s a bunch
