I have a little early morning philosophical musing.

The #statists like asking "Who will build the roads?" when trying to defend the need for a state, and the #libertarians like answering with "The ones that need them".

I submit that in fact it is "The ones who WANT them".

Small distinction but very important due to the underlying perceived origin of the problem.

"Need" assumes a egocentric view, that only the things that affect you directly should you care about.

"Want" assumes that your inner desires for the world are what truly matter and that can very well be altruistic in nature.

It stems from a different belief in human nature. I believe almost everyone is good at heart, but capable of great evil if they feel it's needed.

It's a survival instinct.

But I do strongly believe that if you create strong thriving communities, the natural social bond of humans lead to good outcomes without need for much enforcement.

You will WANT a better world because you will always want to share happiness if you are happy.

You NEED a better world if the current one is not providing you with all you need.

So in a thriving world, you will WANT to build the roads, even if you don't NEED to.
