That’s actually a fairly modern view of atonement. The classical ones are more rooted in Hellenic metaphysics. What God did in the Incarnation was fundamentally change the state of human nature.

I’m not really arguing for it though. I’m sympathetic to the Islamic position. I just know a lot more about the Christian ones.
