Why is that necessary for an artist to be successful?
Discussion
Because it allows the creator to get the benefit when the value of their art goes up and incentivizes them to create more.
I know people here are not big NFT fans but back on my TL, I used to see people publish their mints on fxhash or such marketplaces and actually make a living from it. I'm not sure about the exact price mechanics (there's something called a floor price, # of mints, etc.)
I'm not dismissing zaps as an incentive but blockchains are an alternate means.
I'm sure someone in the digital art trade can articulate this better but as an outsider looking in this is what the NFT piece looked like to me
Most won’t make it if they depend on their money from their art to survive
Sounds like it might make more sense for artists to save in bitcoin.
I will reserve 21 copies of my new book to be sold exclusively in Bitcoin 💪🏼
Not every artist will live of their art. Even on Bitcoin standard they won’t. Pareto distribution is a brutal thing.
Hence the name “starving artist.” It’s true, sometimes real talent is only recognized posthumously. Blockchain doesn’t fix this.
Unfortunately. But #nostr plus #Bitcoin can help more to reach bigger audience and then again more competition will happen and the best artists will live from their art.
The goal of art is to create something captivating and beautiful. It will never speak to everyone, especially early on without countless marketing dollars… but good art stands the test of time and becomes noticed + more desirable as the value appreciates.
This is why I have no problem spending sats to buy real art. I know that the value will go up on both the art and the sats over time.
