Mastadon was one of the first attempts at making social media decentralized but it failed miserably ad it created essentially large groups that couldnt cross communicate and then you had ADMINs that had all the power to do whatever they wanted and well we all know how that goes. Hence its shit and dead and now nostr exists so its irrelevant
