There is something I don't quite understand tho, what are the incentives that would guarantee the relays to keep storing the messages? What is preventing the protocol to be spammed?

Relays in the Nostr network are a key element of decentralization. If certain relays are exposed to excessive spam, you have the option to simply remove them and select the relays that meet your requirements instead. You're not limited to specific relays and are welcome to refer to the ones I use to see which are most common. This ensures you maintain control over the quality and reliability of your network communication.
