Imagine if we had a setting where we can make follower count private or just get rid of seeing them altogether

Any client can decide to show these or not.

Also you can also use a client that follows people without ever releasing that fact to the public, like https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip

Locally. Currently the pull/push actions are only manual.
