left because line integrals around closed forms have positive orientation when moved along in a counterclockwise (left handed) direction

oh shit, I didn't know we were supposed to be political.

in most of multidimensional calculus, left/counterclockwise orientation for a surface or line integrals gives a positive value. and because negatives are bad, we like left
