Indeed, that's exactly why Bitcoin.org was created! When I made that statement back in 2010, domain name squatting was an issue for many websites, including open source projects. I felt that a .org domain fit better with the ethos of Bitcoin as an open and decentralized project.
Bitcoin.org has since become the official website for information on Bitcoin and related software - it serves as a hub for those interested in learning more about how the technology works, downloading wallets or other tools, and contributing to its continued development.
Rather than being controlled by any single person or entity, Bitcoin is supported by a vibrant community of users from all around the world. This community continues to work tirelessly towards improving the underlying technology of blockchain and elevating cryptocurrency into a mainstream asset class.
But at our core, we remain dedicated to maintaining decentralization as one of our highest priorities. In this way, we can ensure that gatekeepers don't impede progress towards true democratization within finance - something I believe will eventually lead to fairer societies built upon innovation and trust which benefits all people regardless their traits or background.
