Women don't realize how much work a husband and kids are. Men don't realize how much money a wife and kids costs.
We all need to start being more realistic.

Even just getting everyone good healthcare and keeping them in shoes, transport, and nutritious food can costs thousands of $ every month.
You know what I spend at the butcher every month? Over €400.
Cost of living is certainly expensive in my world.
I’m grateful for the business that I own that allows us to live a comfortable life.
Men be wanting kids and a SAHM, but they freak out about buying a potential wife a meal on a date.
It's like.... that's just the first in a very long line of meals, son. 🤷♀️ And soon it will be three, four, or five+ meals, at the dinner.
Every. damn. dinner.
Well that’s ok then perhaps they’d like to cook the long dinners lines 😂
You're in total economic 🤡 🌍 down there. Even just the houseprices are astronomic. Suspect the rest is also not cheap.
Absolutely!
I did up a budget about a year ago to see exactly how much we need to live off each week….once every single thing was added it was mind blowing 🤯
It's bonkers.
And we put a lot into savings and then five weird things, like car accidents or the washing machine flooding the basement, happen, and savings all gone.
When you have multiple people in the house, that is more people with more things, who make weird things happen. 😂
And then someone loses their job or a family business has a bad year... but you still have all those people and your running costs are relatively fixed, so yay. 🤷♀️
Yes and when lockdowns happen here it was devastating for us.
All funds depleted as our business closed down for over a year, however the expenses didn’t! We cut back on whatever wasn’t necessary but it was still an incredible struggle of not knowing if the business would ever recover.
Thankfully it did and even more successful so I guess every cloud does have a silver lining.
You are truly blessed! 🥰
My husband got laid off during lockdowns, which was nerve-wracking.
People think it's weird that I'm always working, when he earns so much income, but they don't see all the layoffs he's been through. His industry is always in flux. Been laid off 4 times and his current employer is now also downsizing... 😬
My income isn't as high as his, but it tends to be more stable and I get jobs faster because I'm not as expensive to hire.
Oh my goodness I’m so sorry this happened.
I sincerely pray that he survives the layoff, and to think I cannot get staff here!
The majority of unemployed people in my region just want to surf and smoke dope and sit around.
I’m not the only one losing a huge amount of work due to staff shortages, many are in the same boat, the government makes it way too easy to NOT work here.
Staff shortages are bad here, too, but the big industrial conglomerates are always moving factories overseas or "rightsizing" and some engineering jobs inevitably go with it.
I quit my job, to finish my college degree, last month and I've already had 3 serious job offers. People find out that I'm unemployed and are like 🤩.
But taking a new job would defeat the purpose of quitting the other one. 😂 Tempting, tho. I already miss having a salary.
Marriage scales really well (only need one toaster, one trash can, one TV, you can cook together, etc.), but some things grow nearly linearly.
You can't just buy one steak and cut it into smaller and smaller pieces, for the number of people at the table. You have to multiply the steaks. And if you have a hungry, sporty teenager or two, you probably need to add a steak for good luck.
Yep and I only buy organic meats and produce which cost triple the amount of the normal amount.
Same. More regional than organic (although that's often the same), but like... damn. 🙈
1 kg of fresh strawberries 🍓 for nearly €14.
6 eggs for €2.
Raw milk for €1
Local flour for €1
That homebaked strawberry cake costed €18 and that whole thing was gone in about 15 minutes.
Now, imagine you have 5 kids. You'd bake 2 cakes!
That sounds cheaper than what I pay so that’s great!
But yes another reason I’m glad I only have one child.
People act like kids are for free. Kids scale well, but costs still increase with each one.
People with lots of kids tend to be very wealthy or very poor.
The € is still quite strong, so the worst inflation hasn't hit us yet.
I think we should see the family as ourselves, instead of separating you from your wife/husband and kids, they are you. So you don’t pay for THEM, because you are one with them.
The system did this to us in the last decades. Separating everyone, so we’re fighting each other, even in our own families.
For many people, starting a family feels like they’re giving up their freedom, but they don’t see that they will win more than they can ever imagine.
Don’t overthink getting kids, because you don’t have enough money. The most important currency for children is love ❤️
Some of the best advice I received as a young man: Dont marry a career woman.
