What are you referring too? dose primal have a bug in how they handle zaps?
People are spamming fake zaps to manipulate Primal's trending and zap results. Primal is working on fixing this. In the meantime, people gaming the system.
how dose someone spam a fake zaps? is there a bug in another client or are they just publishing unpaid zap receipt events?
some clients do not validate that a zap actually happened, they don't verify signatures.
but the zap receipt is not created by the client, the LNURL server is the one to publish the zap receipt when the invoice is paid
From NIP-57: "The zap receipt is not a proof of payment, all it proves is that some nostr user fetched an invoice. The existence of the zap receipt implies the invoice as paid, but it could be a lie given a rogue implementation."
So all you need is a rogue lightning node.

Yes, because we didn't have much spam in this regard.
When a metric becomes a target it ceases to be a good metric.
Zaps are not a useful metric because there it can be gamed.

Microtipping is a cool usecase but making it centerpiece of nostr is IMO the wrong play.
Zap counts should be auxiliary, a curiosity.
Using them as engament metrics or poll votes just sets the wrong incentives.
