We tried having a world with religion and it led to endless wars, slaughters, colonialism etc. too.
I agree though that religion is necessary, defined as how we relate to the divine.
The problem is not religion or no religion, the problem is imposed dogma and centralized power.
Christianity itself would have been stuck in the middle age and obscurantism (remember Copernic) if not for some people fighting to believe in God in their own way (protestantism and enlightement).
Would you prefer to live in an exclusive christian world (thus which one ?) or in a world where everyone is free to relate to the divine in their own unique way ?
I would rather decentralize everything.
